It is performed for each child who enters the Foundation with a suspected or confirmed visual impairment; it follows the methodologies that are suitable for the child\u2019s age, and it consists of orthoptic assessment and the examination of basic visual functions (visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, color sensitivity, visual field). By means of a multidisciplinary examination, the orthoptist integrates his or her own data with the considerations from the whole team for a better understanding of higher functions, such as eye-hand coordination skills, visual-spatial orientations and representations&#8230; This is one of the starting points for designing a tailored visual and global rehabilitation program.
