A weekend of multisensory workshops with citrus fruits in Cannero Riviera

Now in its 18th edition, the eventThe Citrus Fruit of Cannero Riviera” enhances the typicality of the fruits that have been growing and ripening in the Piedmontese municipality since 1500, thanks to the microclimate favored by the lake shores and the mountains just a few steps away.
And the Robert Hollman Foundation could not miss the big Cannero festival, offering its free workshops that train the senses of adults and children, launching an important message related to the inclusion of people with visual impairments.

The invitation to participate is for Sunday, March 16, and Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Center at 6 Via Oddone Clerici, where Foundation workers will lead participants to discover the special characteristics of Cannero Riviera citrus fruits through some sensory experiences.

For example, by just sticking one’s hands inside two sleeves touching, rubbing, stroking peels and leaves, the challenge will be to guess whether an orange or citron, rather than a tangerine or lemon, is hiding inside the box. Or using the sense of smell, one will have to identify to which type of fruit the essences to be smelled belong.

Alongside this experience, participants will help create the citrus tree: a template to be set up with cardboard fruits that children can fill with multisensory materials.

One panel, moreover, will depict an illustrated drawing of a “facilitation” that describes how visually impaired and blind children approach knowledge of fruit in general with their senses.

During the days of the Cannero festivities, the Foundation will decorate the bitter orange tree placed in the flower bed at the entrance to its headquarters: the plant was planted in September 2022 by President Claire de Pont, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Robert Hollman’s passing and to reaffirm FRH’s deep connection with the Municipality of Cannero Riviera.
