The habilitative or rehabilitative speech therapy is aimed at promoting both verbal communication and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) modalities that are constructed in a child-friendly and language-supportive manner. During the speech therapy sessions some props may be adopted, and the child is trained on how to use them properly. In addition, disorders related to swallowing are also addressed, and the delicate stages of the transition from suction to chewing are dealt with, in close collaboration with the child’s parents and other caregivers.

Speech therapy evaluates and treats cognitive disorders related to different pathologies; it also deals with children with literacy delays related to a neuropsychological deficit.
