The objective of the eye examination is to have a medical diagnostic/functional assessment of the child’s visual capabilities. It is divided into two parts: the first is devoted to the assessment of visual functions and the second includes an instrumental and anatomical study of the eye components and the visual axis.
The exams performed are: an intraocular pressure measurement, a cycloplegic refraction to identify refractive errors, an anterior segment biomicroscopy to evaluate the conjunctiva, cornea, sclera, anterior chamber and pupillary reflexes, an indirect ophthalmoscopy to observe the lens, vitreous body, retina, and optic nerve.
At the conclusion of the examination, the doctor communicates and shares all data and observations with the family, so that they have the possibility of expressing any doubts and concerns to the ophthalmologist.
